Dangle Earring Design Idea

 making retro style earrings

Creating these 1970's style dangle earrings is more of a design idea than project.  You are simply linking (3) Sterling Silver 13.5mm 2-hole open circle spangles together using Sterling Silver 5.5mm open oval jump rings.  You'll want to make sure that the side that is stamped 925 (the mark of sterling silver) of all of the open circles, is facing the same direction, which will be the backside of the earring.  Once you've joined these (3) spangles, you'll want to attach (1) Sterling Silver 13.5mm 1-hole circle spangle again using the oval jump rings and keeping the 925 stamping facing the same direction as the others.

Now that you have a chain of these open spangles linked, you should have one of the 2-hole spangles that has a hole that is not used.  At that hole put an oval jump ring.  Don't attach the Sterling Silver Lever Back Earrings to the oval jump ring.  You'll want to use another jump ring (I'm using the 4mm sterling silver jump ring) to attach the lever back earrings to the oval jump ring.  This will give the earring more fluid movement.  Duplicate the steps to create the second earring.

To connect your beaded components and connectors, use jump rings. Hold the jump ring with your bent chain-nose pliers while grasping the other end of the jump ring with your chain-nose pliers. Do not use both pliers for leverage. Hold the bent chain-nose pliers steady while pulling the chain-nose pliers either up toward you or down away from you. AGAIN ALWAYS WEARING SAFTY GLASSES.

How to work with jump rings

earring design For a variation on this project, consider adding beads.  We suggest Swarovski Crystal beads - 4mm rounds.  The round shape keeps the circular look uniform.  You'll want to be sure that you are linking on the backside (the side with the 925 stamping).  The beads placed on a headpin and a loop is formed at the top of the headpin.  They can then be put on the jump rings that attach the open circle spangles together.
