The Harvest Necklace

This project uses the brown beads of carved horn and smoky quartz with sunstone gemstone beads and gold plated beads to create a necklace with the harvest colors of fall.  The necklace is 17 inches but you'll want to begin by cutting two pieces of Soft Flex Beading wire at least 23 inches each (possibly more if you're considering making this necklace longer).

Keep in mind that the flexible beading wire arcs between the points where both strands meet so it's important to have enough wire.  Also, use Soft Flex or Soft Touch diameter 0.014 only.  These beads are not too heavy but if you try to use a larger diameter like 0.019, you won't be able to clear the holes of the Sunstone beads.  Although, bead reamers can help to open gemstone bead hole, Sunstone, because of how it crystallizes, is not the most ideal bead for using a bead reamer with.

Start by holding the two pieces of wire together and sliding on the center (1 carved horn bead) and putting a 6mm gold plated heishi, followed by a 4mm gold plated heishi on the outsides of this bead.  You'll be working this project from the center out so center these pieces.

Next, pull the wires apart and string each wire (on both sides of the bead) with a 2mm gold plated or gold filled rounds and 8 gemstone beads.  The 8 gemstone beads, for each strand, should be arranged in a somewhat random and esthetically pleasing way.

Follow this with 2mm gold plated rounds and bringing the wires together again, sting on a 4mm, followed by a 6mm heishi followed by another carved horn bead.  Throughout this project, you'll want to continue to push the beads inward (taking up the slack on the wire) so that there are no gaps and the strands arc/bow.

Once you've done this for both sides, you'll use the heishis again in the same pattern and sting on in the same pattern, until the next station where you'll bring together the strands again and this time, you'll sandwich a gold plated rondelle with the same pattern as you did for the carved horn beads (see the picture below).

Separate the wires again and string the same pattern and at the next station, sandwich a 6mm heishi between 4mm heishis.

When you separate the strands for the last time, you'll nee to use 11 gemstone  beads (more if you want it longer, less if you want it shorter) on each strand.  Finish these off with 2mm gold beads and bringing the strands together, attach your clasp using gold filled crimp beads. Both strands will go through and back through the crimps easily.  Cut off any excess flexible wire to complete this project.

To create the design above you will need the following items

2mm Gold Filled Rounds  (4 packages) or 2mm Gold Plated Rounds (1 package)

Soft Flex Beading Wire (1 spool - size 0.014 only) or Soft Touch Beading Wire (1 spool - size 0.014 diameter only anything larger will not clear the Sunstone beads and you'll waste half of the strand.)
