Many of the pewter beads and findings are now available in a Rhodium finish. Rhodium, like Palladium is part of the Platinum family of metals. It is found along side Platinum when mining and the majority of it comes from South Africa and Russia. Rhodium is an ideal finish for beads and jewelry components because it is very hard and durable. It is so durable, that it is resistant to almost all acids. It resists tarnish and is highly reflective. The silvery-white color has a higher shine than the Antique or Bright Silver finish that is also offered in this category.
Generally, Rhodium is plated on precious metal such as Platinum, White Gold and Sterling Silver to provide tarnish-resistance and high shine. The term "Rhodium Flashing" refers to the plating process in which it is plated on to another metal. Consider Rhodium an excellent value since it is far more expensive than gold and is rarely plated on anything but precious metals in jewelry use. This finish is available in select designs in either Bright Rhodium or Antique Rhodium (which has a darker but shinier finish than the Antique Silver).
